1  “The ground grew softer under his moccasins; the vegetation grew ranker, denser; insects bit him savagely” (Pg. 65).

8  The fog is being compared to a cat. The comparison is evident throughout. Thus, it is an extended metaphor.

9  Alliteration: same beginning sounds.  Assonance: repetition of vowel sounds to create rhyme.  Repetition: repeated words or phrases.  Rhyme: the repetition of the same (or similar) sound, especially at the end or words, lines, or sentences.
