Mission ① To equip all safety professional with the needed knowledge and skills in the promotion and application of safety and health programs and other related activities. ② To upgrade all OSH Standards, Codes, Specifications, Rules/Regulations and programs to globally competitive levels in conjunction with the national government and its related agencies. ③ To generate a continuing program of linkage and partnership with the other oriented organizations and entities through its chapters, for the protection and welfare of all workers including their families.

Brief History The Association of Safety Practitioners of the Philippines, Inc. (ASPPI) is a non-stock, non-profit organization composed of DOLE- BWC accredited safety practitioners and consultants with a total membership of over 2,000 safety professionals employed in the different industries in the country and overseas.

Membership Classification Student Member – Any individual who is currently pursuing any engineering or allied courses and is interested to develop his/her competency in OSH. Associate Member – Any individual who is in the process of completing the basic occupational safety and health training course and manifested interested in the OSH profession. Regular Member – Any individual who is recognized as DOLE accredited OSH practitioners. Life Member – Regular members who are in good standing and have been a Regular member for at least three (3) years. Honorary Member – Any individual, foreign or local who belongs to any government office or from private sector who has demonstrated significant contribution to the advocacy of safety and health subject to the approval of the membership committee. Charter Members – Are the founding members as named in the 1999 Articles of Incorporation.

Brief History… The Association was organized in 1999 with the support of the DOLE through the BWC. The Association has been organized primarily to assist DOLE in the promotion, administration and enforcement of OSH Standards.

Brief History… Likewise, the creation of the Association aims to achieve the following objectives: promote professionalism in the practice of Safety and Health. strengthen camaraderie and unity among DOLE-BWC accredited professionals, and assist other institutions and establishments in maintaining a safety and healthy environment.

SEC Registration ASPPI was duly registered with the Securities and Exchange Commission (SEC) on December 8, 1999 with SEC Registration No.199919006. It operates through various committees which implement programs on varied areas of concern for the safety practitioners.

ASPPI at 10 (OSH Programs and Activities) During its ten years of existence, most of its programs are in support to the DOLE’s thrusts and programs on occupational safety and health. Some of its activities include the conduct of Yearly Convention and General Assembly of safety practitioners with yearly themes on safety and health, safety and health forum to discuss recent issues on OSH, technical support on the proposed amendments of the OSHS and draft on the proposed code of ethics of safety practitioners.

ASPPI at 10 (OSH Programs and Activities) Last December 22, 2006, a coordination meeting between ASPPI Chapters and the DOLE-BWC was conducted at the OSHC,Diliman, Quezon City. The activity aimed to further enhance ASPPI chapter organizations in all the Regions in line with the DOLE Rationalization Program and in preparation for the decentralization of line functions being performed by the BWC to include evaluation and approval of accreditation of OSH Practitioners and evaluation and approval of construction safety and health program pursuant to Department Order No. 16 series of 2001 and Department Order No.13 series of 1998 respectively. ASPPI Directors sit as technical consultants during the conduct of the thesis defense and interview of applicants for accreditations as OSH Consultant.

Future Thrusts With the decentralization of the line functions of BWC to the regional offices, the organization of ASPPI regional chapters is a crucial factor in ensuring transparency in the accreditation program. Since ASPPI is composed of “volunteers” from private sector, it will be to the benefit of the program that ASPPI regional chapters hold office in the DOLE regional offices . This will ensure orderly and fast evaluation of documents.

ASPPI Chapters To date, ASPPI has eighteen (18) local chapters and three (3) international chapters organized with the support of the BWC and the DOLE Regional Offices Oath taking of ASPPI Regional Chapters and National Officers with Sec. ASPPI Chapter Operations Planning Each Chapter shall develop an annual management plan every month of December and such plan shall be the basis for chapter operations in the coming year. The plan shall define strategies and tactics, responsibilities and accountabilities, sequence as well as timelines for such strategies. The chapter operations annual plan shall be based and aligned with the ASPPI national board’s established annual plan.

A 4 th Officers and BOD monthly meeting was held at Fort Wayne last July 17,2009 with DOLE-BWC Dir. Brenda Villafuerte and ASPPI National Secretary Fernan Castillo. The highlights of the meeting were the conferment of the Officers and BOD for the ASPPI Batangas Chapter.

Duties of an ASPPI Members An ASPPI member has the primary duty of propagating and protecting the prestige and dignity of ASPPI. All members of working committee has the duty to deliver the required output and results. Members shall endeavor to establish his/her own continuous professional development plan as a pre-requisite for continuous accreditation as OSH practitioner or consultant. Members shall provide a free community service, equivalent to at least sixteen (16) hours per year in any OSH related activity for the barangay, municipality or city. ( Note: This duty shall be optional for the student, associate and honorary members)

Duties of Elected ASPPI Officers Any member, elected as an officer or director, whether national or chapter shall exhibit exemplary moral ascendancy and integrity and shall delivery optimum performance for the association as defined in ASPPI Manual and in the annual ASPPI strategic performance plan. Elected ASPPI Officers and directors shall conduct quarterly review vis-à-vis established ASPPI strategic performance plan to verify progress implementation.
