3 Why should you care about safety? This segment of the training provides reasons why you should care about safety.

12 To Sum it Up: Many employees are getting injured. Injuries put more work on other employees. Injuries can affect friends and family. Slips, trips and falls and lifting are common causes of injuries. A lot of money is spent on workplace injuries and illnesses.

13 What is the commonwealth doing to improve safety? This segment of the training reviews what the commonwealth is doing to improve safety.

14 Safety Program Your agency has a safety program which is designed to protect you.

15 Training Safety training will be provided on many topics. Your supervisor will also provide job specific training.

16 Hazard Controls Workplace hazards will be evaluated to ensure proper controls are in place.  Physical controls ~Machine guarding ~Fall prevention guardrails  Process changes ~Changing work tasks throughout the day  Warning signs and barriers

17 Personal Protective Equipment Personal protective equipment is provided when it is needed.

18 Investigation of Injuries/Incidents A thorough investigation of all injuries and incidents will be conducted to prevent future, similar incidents. Your involvement may be needed during these investigations.

19 Continual Improvement The commonwealth continually strives to improve its safety program so all employees can go home in the same condition they came to work. Our goal is to reduce injuries by 25% over the next few years.

20 To Sum it Up: A safety program is in place. Safety training will be provided on many topics. Hazard controls will be continually evaluated Personal protective equipment is available. Injuries and incidents will be investigated. Continuous improvement will occur.

21 Employee Responsibilities This segment of the training reviews your responsibilities under the safety program.

22 Work Safely Know and follow established policy, safety procedures, rules and work practices Properly use and maintain safety controls and protective equipment Don’t use damaged equipment

23 Training Participate in required safety training and educational programs Ask for training if you’re not sure how to do the job safely

24 Get Involved If you see a hazard and can fix it, do so If there is a safer way to do the job, suggest this to your supervisor or safety coordinator Work safely and encourage co-workers to do so too

25 Report Unsafe Conditions Notify your supervisor of hazards Or, you may report hazards to/through:  Safety committees  Safety suggestion program  Safety coordinator

26 Report Injuries and Incidents Immediately report all workplace injuries and incidents to your supervisor or other person in charge In addition, report unplanned events, close calls and near misses that did not result in an injury or incident, but had the potential to do so

27 Commitment Your commitment is vital to ensuring everyone goes home each night in the same condition they came to work.
