SUPERINTENDENT’S REPORT September 14, 2015

MISSION STATEMENT The mission of the Pender Public School District is to provide quality educational opportunities in a safe, positive learning environment that motivates and challenges all students to become productive and responsible citizens.

WORKSHOPS/MEETINGS  Past Events  August 19 – EHC Kickoff Meeting  August 25 – Board of Education Finance Committee Meeting  August 26 – ESU 1 Superintendent’s Meeting  August 27 – Special Board of Education Meeting  September 1 – EHC Executive Committee Meeting  September 2 – reVISION Meeting (Grant coordinator Mary Janata)  September 9 – NRCSA Ad Hoc Committee Meeting  Future Events  September 29 – Northeast District NRCSA Meeting  September 30 – MAP Reports Training  October 7 – Title IX Training or NE K-12 Infrastructure Clinic  October 7 – Booster Club and PTO Meetings  October 8 – Staff Inservice (APL Refresher)

OFFICE SIGNS  Love Signs  $1,110.19  Near doors 1 and 2 and above door 4  The signs will be installed this week!

PENDER STATE BANK SIGNAGE  Pender State Bank is changing names and will now be known as Frontier Bank  They have two signs on district property that were posted after donations to the district were made  Heyne Field  Heese Event Center (Old Gym)  These signs will change very soon (most likely prior to October 1, 2015)

VARSITY FOOTBALL SCHEDULE  Pender @ Omaha Nation  4:00 pm or 4:30 pm  October 2  Elementary students will be dismissed at the normal time (3:25 pm)  Secondary students will be dismissed at 3:30 pm  GACC @ Pender  8:00 pm  October 9  Referee crew could not make it to Pender until later than normal  Pender @ Wakefield  3:00 pm  October 23  School is not in session on this date

VOLLEYBALL SCHEDULE CHANGE  The game scheduled for September 19 at 9:00 am in Scribner has been changed to October 5 at 5:30 pm  This change was made in reaction to Homecoming being moved from September 25 to September 18

FOOTBALL FIELD BLEACHERS  It has been brought to my attention that several district patrons would like for the bleachers at the football field to be handicap accessible  Wheel chair seating  Ramp  Our bleachers could also be improved by adding steps and railings in a couple of places  Safety  Convenience  A plan to address these issues will be developed in the next couple of months so this work can be completed in the spring or summer

NSAA RECLASSIFICATION  The NSAA formed a reclassification committee to study the classification system in Nebraska for activities and athletics  Met July 29  Plan to meet again in October  Seven points to consider  Consider addressing the difference in enrollment from the top to the bottom of each class  Classify schools using gender count rather than using the total number  Utilize a two-year classification system like football but for all sports  Establish a break-off number for each class  Change the number of class from 6 to either 5 or 7  Study a multiplier and/or a success factor  Opting up  The likelihood of change is limited, but it is good for NSAA member schools to have meaningful conversations of this nature  I would like to see this committee consider football differently than the rest of the activities due to the nature of the sport
