23   Title IX jumpstarts Sun Prairie Ladies Athletics in 1972.  Celebrate Saturday, January 19 th.  Sun Prairie, WI – In 1972 Sun Prairie High School Girls Athletic Association had 125 girls in the club designed to get intramural-level sports organized for interested girls. In the same year, the Federal government signed into law, Title IX which essentially leveled the playing field for girls by giving them equal sports representation.  Since then, 11 conference sports have been added along with one club sport.  Timeline of Ladies Athletics  1901Basketball  1946Bowling  1972Girls Athletic Association  1972Track  1973Tennis  1974Volleyball, Gymnastics  1976Softball  1978Cross Country  1987Golf  1989Soccer  1992Swimming  2005Bowling  2007Hockey  2010Equestrian  2011679- (a club sport)  Strong Participation Today  At the end of the 2011 seasons, there were 446 girls who participated in a sport compared to 634 boys. The girls represented 41 percent of all Sun Prairie High School athletes.
