9 From Monday 25 th January every Year 11 student will have 100 Prom Points. If you lose all of your Prom Points before the end of your exams, you won’t be allowed to attend. 95% of Year 11 last year attended – only a couple of students lost all of their points. School/Teacher Lunchtime or afternoon detention5 Senior Leadership Detention 10 Internal Exclusion25 External Exclusion50 From the 25 th January, your attendance must be 92% or higher (school target = 96%).

17 Progress Data Drops 6 weekly cycle of data drops Every teacher is asked to provide three pieces of data for each student: 1.Current working grade (CWG) 2.Predicted end of year grade (EYP) 3.Attitude to learning (A2L)

18 Use of Progress Data Departments meet to discuss progress, target and evaluate interventions Senior Leadership Team monitor and evaluate this process through regular meetings with department heads The progress data will be available to parents via the Parental Portal Students will be informed of their CWG on a regular basis

20 Subject Mentoring To provide subject-specific academic support to ensure that students achieve target grades Delivered by subject teachers and departmental teaching assistants Regular meetings and SMART targets Based on data provided by subject teachers at each data drop 6 weekly cycle Part of a department’s package of support and interventions which can include other strategies such as revision classes

21 Assertive Mentoring To support, encourage and develop the full potential of each student Students who would benefit from additional support to achieve their target grades Assigned to an Assertive Mentor (team of 12 mentors) Regular meetings and SMART targets Based on data provided by subject teachers Effective mentoring creates a ‘can do culture’ where students are given the support to believe in themselves and hopefully achieve their full potential

22 Exam Preparation 1.Plan a revision timetable 2.Know what you need to revise 3.Use different revision techniques 4.Practice your exam technique 5.Attend revision/booster sessions in school

23 1. Plan A Revision Timetable You will need: 1.All your exam dates 2.Dates of other commitments i.e. family events 3.List of your subjects 4.Blank calendar 5.Support from your family & friends

Know What You Need To Revise 1.Make a list of all the subjects that you will have an exam in 2.For each subject list all the different topics 3.Check you have all your Year 10 and Year 11 exercise books, files, revision resources, practice exam papers, trial exam papers… 4.Ask for help if you think something is missing

Use Different Revision Techniques 1.Avoid ‘passive’ revision 2.Train your brain to remember 3.Try these revision techniques: summary notes – flash cards OR key facts – post-it notes OR link information – mind maps OR quick quiz – create them yourself OR flow diagrams, time-lines, past papers, labelled diagrams /photos…

26 Time To Try For Yourself! 1.Post it notes – on each note write down one of your subjects – underneath write how many exam papers there are for that subject HISTOR Y 2 PAPER S Take them home to start planning your revision timetable!

27 2. Mind map – my family – a branch for each family member – add details about each person… Time To Try For Yourself! My family Mum: Born in October Has two brothers Used to work as a hairdresser Dad: Born in June Had 3 brothers & a sister Still working as an engineer Brother… You can record any information this way – even whole topics! You can link facts too. Both have blue eyes Brother… Twins

29 3. Flashcards – summarise your facts about one of your family members on one card – these could be facts about a key historical event or feature or a geographical case study or…. Time To Try For Yourself! Antarctica – extreme environment Attractions… Impacts – environmental … Management strategies … Success … You can buy sets from shops such as Rymans (even different colours) or make your own!

30 4. Labelled photo – you can print an image from the internet – it could be a photo or a diagram – add labels (annotate) to show knowledge… Time To Try For Yourself! Played by Daniel Radcliffe Character is called …

Practice your exam technique You will try past exam questions and whole papers in lessons, for homework and as trial exams Try improving on your answers at home (i-Time) You can download more from the exam board websites Listen carefully to the advice that your class teacher gives you – read the questions carefully, highlight key words i.e. explain, do you have to answer all of the questions…?

33 5. Attend revision/booster sessions in school Your teachers are subject experts They have many years of experience Use them! Sharing revision techniques, checking knowledge and understanding, practicing skills – work together to achieve success (to quote Mr Wilson)
