RESPECT, RESPONSIBILITY, RESILIENCE Year 7 Class Organisation 5 x Form Tutor Groups Year 7 mixed ability teaching groups for initial half term Assessments (KS2 SATs, CATs, NFER Reading) Following assessments, students are then ability grouped for some subjects (English, Maths, Science, Languages) and in mixed ability groups for other subjects.

RESPECT, RESPONSIBILITY, RESILIENCE Assessment and Reporting The school reports to parents 3 times per year. There is also a Progress Evening once a year. Two reports are ‘data only’ and one report contains written comments and targets Students are set challenging targets based initially upon their KS2 scores. These use the new GCSE grades 1-9 Students will be tracked in each subject as ‘Not making Expected Progress’, ‘Making Expected Progress’ or making ‘Better than Expected Progress’ towards their KS4 targets New GCSE grades

For each unit of work, in each subject, students are rated against criteria and assessed as ‘Launching’, ‘Developing’, ‘Achieving’, ‘Excelling’ or ‘Mastering’ This information is then used to judge a student’s progress against their target These grids are included in all reports so that it is clear what the student has achieved and what the next steps they need to take are

A two week programme of activities designed to support the transition from Year 6 to Year 7 When will it take place? Monday 15 th August – Friday 26 th August from 9.15am until 2.30pm Where will it take place? Workington Academy, with visits to local places of interest.

Students: Get to know students from all the other schools Meet lots of staff Get to know their way around the building Experience lots of different subjects without sitting behind a desk Work in smaller groups with the full support of non-teaching staff Get a head start with the academy’s reading programme Keep their brains stimulated while having fun!

Spend two weeks with us completing sports, art, music, literacy and numeracy activities with our Workington Academy staff.
