3 Rules about conjugation You can’t have 2 conjugated verbs side-by- side. We do the same thing in English. I want to surf the net. I want is the conjugated form. To surf the net is an infinitive form.

4 In Spanish, it works the same way. Yo quiero navegar por Internet. Quiero is the conjugated form and navegar is the infinitive.

5 There are 3 steps to conjugate a regular verb. Identify the infinitive. Is it an “ar”, “er” or “ir” verb. Now, chop it off. You are left with the “stem”. Add the ending that goes with the subject.

6 Some questions are What does conjugation mean? What is an infinitive? What is a stem changing verb? What steps do you do to conjugate a verb?

7 Conjugation means Changing an infinitive to go with a given subject. An infinitive in Spanish ends in an “ar”, “er” or “ir”. In English, an infinitive begins with the word “to”.

8 Examples of conjugations in English To be- infinitive form I am You are She is We are They are We do NOT say “I to be” To talk- infinitive form I talk You talk She talks We talk They talk We do NOT say “I to talk”

9 Infinitives are easy to identify Bailar is an “ar” verb. Beber is an “er” verb. Escribir is an “ir” verb. Just look at the last 2 letters.
