FINAL PROJECT Romeo and Juliet

Romeo and Juliet Assessments YOU WILL HAVE TWO ASSESSMENT GRADES WHEN WE FINISH ROMEO AND JULIET.  AN ESSAY TEST: When we complete the final act of the play, you will select a theme and compose an essay based on that theme. More info to come …  FINAL PROJECT: A reenactment of a significant scene from the play in modern language.

FINAL PROJECT: What’s Required?  Your final project will be a reenactment of a significant scene from Shakespeare’s Romeo and Juliet.  Here’s the catch: Not only must your reenactment be accurate to the script, but it must be rewritten and performed in modern language.

TWO OPTIONS … You can perform your reenactment live in front of our class, but you will be responsible for bringing anything you might need, and will have to make sure that what you need is OKAY to bring to school. No props/costumes are required, but will earn you some mega extra credit points! You can film your reenactment or create an animation using a program of your choice. There are some options we can explore together for this. Again, you will be responsible for providing your own props/costumes, as well as ensuring we are able to watch this in class, either via DVD or web (web-based animation program, uploading to YouTube, etc.). LIVEVIDEO

TWO MORE OPTIONS …  If you wish to work alone, you must find a monologue or soliloquy of appropriate length to perform independently. You can not ask people to “fill in” as other characters at the last minute, etc.  Someone could also work alone if they wanted to create an animated video.  Groups will be at least two people. Things will work best if you choose a scene where you won’t need more than five characters.  People do NOT have to play the same part they played in our class reading.  If a group wishes to create a live action or animated video where all group members are not necessarily visible, students must prove each member’s participation in the project. SOLOGROUP

ACCOMPANYING DOCUMENTS  Every project must include a written version of the script in modern language (ONE copy per project must be turned in to Mrs. Noell) – YES – even if you have a recorded reenactment, or you do not use the script when acting.  If you want each group member to have their own script to read from, you will be responsible for making your own copies.  Each STUDENT, whether working alone or in a group, must submit an essay describing the importance of their reenacted scene to the theme and plot of the play. This essay should be approximately ½ page - 1 whole page. SCRIPTSINDIVIDUAL ESSAYS

Our due date is not yet definite, since we know the time it takes us to complete our reading may vary depending on circumstances. Remember that the end of the year is approaching quickly. It is important that we are on our best behavior every class, so that we can make “good time” reading Romeo and Juliet. DUE DATE ESTIMATED GOAL DUE DATE: I would like to present Romeo and Juliet projects on Tues. May 21 st and Thurs. May 23 rd. Please go ahead and plan for the projects and essays to be due on these two days. As we come closer to finishing the play, I will be better able to estimate this time frame. Please listen in class and check the web page for updates so you are sure of when your project is due. SIGN-UPS: When we know the definite project dates, I will prepare sign-up sheets. Your group can sign up for a slot so you’ll know exactly when you’ll be presenting.
