1 Week 25: Mon + Tues. (Watch video before taking survey) *Check email to take Survey!!!

2  Read through then Sign Contract  Consists of reading 4 articles written by Dartmouth College Students (1 per week)  These articles are to help you explore your diversity, particularly as it relates to the way in which race may or may not shape our identity.  M+T: Read article & answer questions  W+R: Turn in answers & be prepared to talk about 1 thing you read in the article or something it made you think of.  At least ½ of the class will be called on. If you don’t have anything to say, you’ll receive a ZERO for your discussion grade.  At the conclusion of this unit, each SENIOR will be writing an autobiographical memoir similar to what we will be reading.

3 Used for several reasons:  It’s the easiest way to provide your tax data.  It’s the best & most efficient way of ensuring that your FAFSA has accurate tax information.  You don’t need to provide a copy of your or your parents’ tax returns to your college.

4  Once logging into the FAFSA with your Pin & Social Security Number…  Select the IRS Data Retrieval Tool and you will be directed to the IRS website.  Users will then need to authenticate their identity before any personal information is displayed.  After viewing tax data, applicants will then have the option to “Transfer” the tax information directly to the FAFSA application.

5  The IRS Data Retrieval Tool available starting FEBRUARY 1, 2015.  Electronically filed 2014 tax return information will be available online from the IRS Data Retrieval Tool 1-2 weeks after return has been filed.  Data from 2014 paper tax returns available 6-8 weeks after the return has been filed.  If you are not eligible to use the IRS Data Retrieval Tool, a copy of your official tax transcript* must be submitted. * Most Financial Aid Offices will ONLY accept copies of official tax transcripts for verification purposes.

6 Instructions to utilize the IRS DRT to transfer IRS tax data into the FAFSA. 1. Click Login at fafsa.ed.gov 2. Enter student's name, Social Security Number, and date of birth. Click Next. 3. Click Make FAFSA Corrections if the FAFSA has previously been submitted. 4. Enter student's Federal PIN and password created when FAFSA was filed. 5. Click on Financial Information (located in the top, menu navigation bar).  For students who provide parent financial information on the FAFSA, the Parent Tax Information is displayed. 6. Select Already Completed if the parent 2014 IRS income tax return has already been completed and submitted. 7. Select the correct answer for each of the questions.  If No is selected for all questions, enter the parent federal PIN and click LINK TO IRS. 8. Click OK to leave FAFSA on the Web. 9. Click OK to enter the IRS system.

7 10. Once on the IRS website, enter the requested information. 11. Click Submit when requested information has been entered exactly how it appears on the IRS income tax return.  If the IRS is able to validate your identification, the IRS tax information displays.  If any part of the street address on the 2014 IRS Income Tax Return is abbreviated, please eliminate all punctuation and be sure that the street address on the FAFSA is exactly the same as the 2014 IRS Income Tax Return. Example: If the street address on the 2014 IRS Income Tax Return is 104 E Main St, it should be entered as: 104 E Main St on the FASFA.  2014 IRS Income Tax Returns that are filed using only a PO Box should be entered on the street address line. 12. Select the Transfer My Tax Information into the FAFSA and click Transfer Now.  DO NOT change any information. 13. Return to the FAFSA website using the links provided.

If the student has already completed and submitted a 2014 IRS Income Tax Return, proceed to the  Student Financial Information section under Financial Information (located in the top, menu navigation bar).  Repeat steps 3 - 13 to retrieve the student tax information. 15. Click on Sign & Submit in the top, menu navigation bar after the student tax information is transferred into the FAFSA. 16. Proceed with signing and submitting the FAFSA. 17. Click on SUBMIT MY FAFSA NOW. A confirmation number displays to verify submission.  If you are unable to utilize the IRS DRT, you must submit a 2014 IRS Tax Return Transcript.  Specific instructions to request a 2014 IRS Tax Return Transcript are found on most college websites.

9 “Make FAFSA Corrections or transfer IRS data into your FAFSA” Choose “2015-2016” Step-by-Step IRS Data Retrieval Instructions

10 Click “Financial Information”

11 Select “Already completed”

12 Select your parents’ filing status

13 Select “NO” to each of the questions Enter your PIN Click “Link To IRS”

14 Click “OK” to leave the page

15 Enter info exactly as it appears on your TAX RETURN Click “Submit”

16 If the IRS is able to validate your identification, your IRS tax info will be displayed Click “Transfer Now” and return to the FAFSA website using the link provided

17 Make sure that you have indicated “Already completed” in the box.

18 SIGN and Submit. Then YOU’RE DONE!!!

19  You can request a transcript, free of charge, of your federal tax return transcript for the current academic year if a college asks for it.  Online Request  Available on the IRS website at www.irs.govwww.irs.gov  In the Online Services section of the homepage click Get transcript of your tax records  Click on Get transcript online  Create an account  Click on appropriate year  You will now be able to view your transcript as a PDF file

20  Finish IRS Data Retrieval Handout by end of the period  This IRS Data Retrieval Steps PowerPoint is on the Wiki  Sign Diversity Contract and turn in  If you didn’t FWD your FAFSA Confirmation page, you are required to go to the FAFSA Workshop on Tuesday or Wednesday  Bring your parent’s 2014 W2 & their tax return if they have them  Print out 2 Verification Forms and put in your folder by Thursday/Friday
