The answers to these questions will form the basis of your attraction strategy i.e. the proposition that you will set before the candidates that you engage with, either through your recruitment advertising or through direct approaches. Contact and nurturing - turning casual expressions of interest in your advertisement into applications. Executive search - proactive engagement with the marketplace. School visits, open evenings and telephone conversations with the Chair of Governors Engagement

6 Shaping the world of education Selection Without effective attraction strategies and engagement processes, you won't have enough candidates to assess. Without effective assessment processes, you won't know if you have made the right choice.

7 Shaping the world of education Shortlisting - what is required A Job Description and Person Specification outlining the experience, skills and personal qualities that are essential and desirable. An Application Form that captures skills and experience. A personal statement that gives an indication of personal qualities and vision. Ofsted data from current and previous schools.
