Overview of 2015 Youth Leagues Conference Acknowledgement to Chris Brindley-Chairman Greater Sport

A burning platform for change

Our burning platform Aged 13-15 52% Aged 17-18 26%

Responsibility = Ability to respond It may not be our fault but it certainly is our problem.

“Our youth League cancels fixtures for all half term weekends” “We try to finish our u16-18 divisions by the end of March, April at the latest, so the players can concentrate on their exams” Good Practice

“Our league surveyed the players as well as Coaches and administrators” “We got a completely different response.” Good Practice

We could always do the same things we have always done

“Our Under 18’s play in an adult leagues cup competition to give them a taste of open age football” Good Practice

Can we have a vision like Dick Fosbury?

It is better to light candles than complain about the dark

What makes transition work? Youth to Vets League Reciprocal representation on youth and adult league committees Presentations to youth clubs at a time when they may be considering their options for next season Good contact between existing youth and adult leagues Progressing entire youth teams rather than individuals Supporting transition teams team’s through the shock of admin and financial requirements of adult football Flexibility – Central venue, number of games, time of kick off, older players as mentors, easy league affiliation, consultation with County FA

How can we improve?

Whole Game System What have been the challenges? The change over hasn’t been smooth – lots of bugs Teaching clubs/leagues/referees how to use it League Statements Marking notifications as read Repeated information requests regarding suspensions The new process of response due date and payment due date League Statements – pending suspensions

What did we do to tackle this? Visited league meetings across the County to introduce the system Held quarterly County Support Events across the County Called/visited club secretaries/referees directly to educate them Provided flexibility around late fees Fed back constantly to The FA regarding bugs Communicated with clubs/leagues on a weekly basis IT carry out weekly fixes which have improved the system drastically Whole Game System

Benefits to clubs? Can respond to cases immediately Can pay online 24/7 Email notifications are sent to clubs automatically providing us with a communications trail Can update roles as and when changes are made Can see their discipline/payment history Can see a list of current suspensions including their players who have suspensions with other clubs Clubs Online – 487 / Clubs Offline- 167

Benefits to leagues? The league receive live data within the League statement Ideal for the weekend when the office is closed when clubs are suspended Charge results straight onto the league statement for 7 days More detailed information is given Affiliation updates See all clubs disciplinary history (Cautions, Dismissals and Misconducts)

Comparison to other CFAs Percentage of clubs online

Club/Referee usage Percentage of referees using WGS

Proposed Rule Amendments We receive considerable funding from the The FA. This funding is dependent on us meeting specific targets & objectives (KPI’s) Currently we need information on referee coverage Why do we need this information? We require information from member leagues to enable us to demonstrate to The FA that their money is being spent correctly. We want to be more tactical when delivering referee courses moving forward. This data is vital for us to increase the amount of referees in the relevant areas The proposal An amendment to Association Rules will require Leagues to provide information on request

Articles of The Association Proposed Changes The make up of our Council no longer represents the current diversity of football in the County Our Aim is to appoint more members onto Council who represent youth, girls and women’s football All affiliated Leagues will be invited to appoint their representative to attend Hertfordshire FA Council Meetings To do this we are holding a Special General Meeting on 16 th March to implement these changes. This will enable changes to be effective for next season

County FA support visits Due to the introduction of Whole Game System we now have more time to get out and support clubs/leagues to complete the affiliation/league sanctioning process. Proposal: Each league will have a 1:1 meeting between June/August with Hertfordshire FA to discuss the process The County will come to the league at a confirmed time/date Queries/concerns can be discussed face to face and dealt with more quickly

What we need from you? Contact George Wells requesting a date/time/venue for 1:1 meeting by 31 st March Include information on what you’d like to discuss at the meeting so that we can assign the appropriate members of staff Important to note that this will not be part of a ‘league meeting’. This will be held separately between the league and County FA

League Promotion & Advertising How Do You Advertise Yours?

Power of the Internet…

Your website is your house You’re hosting a party… Your Social Media posts are your directions

We want two leagues to take part in pilot digital promotion scheme with The Hertfordshire FA.

The pilot scheme will run from March 31 st – July 31 st 2016 Collaborative analysis of the league’s promotional needs Collaborative analysis of the league’s current digital promotion plan The creation of a digital marking plan that addresses the league’s needs The management, development and execution of the league’s digital promotion plan A biweekly report detailing the ongoing results of the marketing plan Details
