Our priorities 2015/16 Reduce the variability in the quality of mentoring Ensuring all partners are clear about their responsibilities Monitoring the effectiveness of the mentoring that trainees receive Support trainees who have the potential to be outstanding by the end of the course. 4

Consistency of Placements Main focus being:- Quality of training across the placements Regularity of Subject Mentor meetings Opportunities to meet with the Professional Mentor Monitoring of evidence to support Teacher Standards Action Planning CPD offered by the school Extra-curricular opportunities offered Programme for NQT’s Monitor the quality of training across the placements and create case studies 8

Expectations Induction session provided Subject Mentor to have a timetabled one hour meeting A minimum of one formal observation per week Trainee to attend all CPD training as offered by the school One meeting with the Professional Mentor per term One formal joint observation from the Professional & Subject mentor

Experiences Observing G&T, SEN, EAL provision in practice Shadowing a pupil Supporting SEND pupils as a classroom support outside the specialist subject Working with the SENCO and specific pupils with SEND Primary Placement (Summer Term) Other as planned by the placement (please offer as many as possible!) 11

Record of Progress To be completed weekly in the subject mentor meeting Trainee responsible for its completion Trainee is to store in their PDP file Professional mentor to be sent a copy

Observation Minimum of one formal observation per week Best practice is one per lesson Professional mentor to undertake a joint observation with subject mentor per term Link tutor and Professional mentor observations to take place

Improvements in Partnership Partnership school placement quality assurance Visits to all professional mentors who are unable to attend training Joint observations with Professional Mentors On line mentor training for Professional and Subject mentors (developed for January 2016) Partnership newsletter

Lead inspectors may ask for a number of the teaching observations to be jointly carried out with school mentors and/or trainers. For these observations, the mentor or trainer rather than the inspector would feed back to the trainee. Inspectors would normally expect to see a detailed written lesson plan for every lesson they observe taught by trainees. 19 Inspection 2015/2016

Inspection 2015/2106 They will also expect trainees to have the following documentation with them in their school, college or setting: teaching files containing lesson plans, schemes of work and teaching resources trainees’ self-evaluations and/or reflective journals information about pupils’/learners’ progress profiles/portfolios of evidence subject knowledge audits and records records of feedback, meetings with mentors and tutors, and reviews of targets assignments, directed tasks and feedback sheets.
