What is DHT? DHT is a naturally occurring hormone in your body. It’s a part of the androgen hormone family. Among other places in the body, DHT is found in hair follicles and oil glands. It’s found in both men and women and an for some it can cause a few problems.

What Are the Consequences? Some men and women have hair follicles that are genetically sensitivity to DHT. When levels of DHT rises they experience hair loss. Skins oil/sebaceous glands produce too much oil when stimulated by DHT. In both men and women too much oil leads to clogged pores and acne. However, DHT can be reduced in order to stop hair loss and acne.

How DHT Relates to Acne Normal levels of DHT allows healthy oil production by sebaceous glands that keeps your skin and hair healthy. But too much DHT leads to excessive oil production that clogs the pores leading to whiteheads and blackheads. Clogged pores provide the bacteria that is normally on the skin food and place to grow causing inflammation which we know as acne.

How It Relates to Hair Loss High DHT levels cause the normal hairs to shed and be replaced with short, thin and colorless hairs. These short hairs make the scalp appear thinner which we know as hair loss DHT eventually kills the hair follicle and hair loss becomes permanent.

How Can You Control It? With anti-DHT treatments, men and women can help stop the formation of acne and stop it at the source. They also protect the hair against DHT and allowing the follicle to grow thicker, longer and darker hairs again. Both treatments hinge on reducing and blocking DHT, but not getting rid of it since it’s a necessary bodily hormone.

Will Your Acne or Hair Loss Ever Go Away? Since DHT is naturally occurring, and you can’t actually stop it from being produced, you will always have to deal with its consequences. However, with the right treatments, you can control DHT and manage acne breakouts and hair loss. Over time, you can use the treatments less often.

Understand Your Acne or Hair Loss Information and research is your best weapon against acne and hair loss. Before using products, find out what their active ingredients are and avoid products that will exacerbate your condition. Don’t be fooled by products that won’t work or that offer only temporary solutions. Take control of your skin and hair today!
