IDB-1394 Summary IDB : ITS (Intelligent Transportation System) Data BusIDB : ITS (Intelligent Transportation System) Data Bus IDB-1394IDB-1394 - - a standard set up by the 1394 Trade Association and IDB Forum. It was developed with an idea of trying to use the specifications of IEEE 1394 in automotive information network. - - enable plug-and-play connections between in-vehicle applications and personal computers, mobile phones, DVD players, TVs and video games through a built-in common connector in vehicle instrument panels. 10

IDB-1394 Summary - CCP (Customer Convenience Port) An IDB-1394 based interface port designed as a customer interface to a vehicle's on-board computing system (DashPC). The CCP port is intended to be used with PDA's, Laptops, Portable Media Players (PMPs), etc. 11

IDB-1394 Features 12 Cost Cost : silicon costs, harness flexibility, licensing fees Maturity Maturity Reliability Reliability Flexibility Flexibility : provide flexible harnessing : allows 1394 connectors at various locations around the car : flexible topology (bus, star, ring, tree, etc…)

IDB-1394 Benefit - Reduce wire harnesses (POF) 13

IDB-1394 Benefit - Rear-seat Entertainment System 14

It was established in 1994. The specifications of the IEEE 1394 standard were approved in 1995. 15

IDB-1394 Consortium & Standard IDB ForumIDB Forum http://www.idbforum.org/ - actively promotes the IDB standards (IDB-C and IDB- 1394) as an interface standard for in-vehicle LAN. - The IDB standard has been approved with ITS America. - The objective of the Forum includes the standardization of IDB-1394. - It was established in 1999. Its head office is located at McMurray in Pennsylvania State. 16

IDB-1394 Consortium & Standard AMI-CAMI-C (Automotive Multimedia Interface Collaboration) (Automotive Multimedia Interface Collaboration) http://www.ami-c.org/ - A global automotive industry organization dedicated to creating common requirements to enable vehicle manufacturers to take advantage of current developments in mobile information and entertainment systems. - Announcement of the AMI-C Release 2 in February 2003. 17
