1 Toll Middle School Title I Parent Meeting August 27, 2015

2 What is Title I?  1965 Elementary and Secondary Act  Every year districts are given a lump sum of money to divide among its schools. A school must have 35% or more of socio-economically disadvantaged students in order to receive Title I funding. Designed to remove factors such as low income and poverty and allows all students an equal opportunity to receive the highest quality education possible

3 Title I Funding Annual federal money benefiting all students by funding additional instructional programs that support student achievement 1% minimum must be spent on parent involvement

4 How Does Toll Qualify? 2015-16 = 80% (822/1164) 2014-15= 65.6% (758/1,156) 2013-14 = 63.1% (721/1,142) Percentage of Toll students receiving free and reduced lunch

6 Use of Title I Funds Provide tutoring for struggling students Provide student intervention classes Purchase instructional materials and technology Fund parent involvement activities Create/update technology Host professional development for teachers Hire Educational Assistants to support student achievement

7 Parent and School Connections Parent Involvement Policy Parent- Student-Teacher Compact School Site Council/English Language Advisory Committee (ELAC) District Advisory Committee/District English Language Advisory Committee.

8 Title I Accountability No Child Left Behind (NCLB) All schools are expected to make specific gains in students achievement on the state test (CAASPP) Review of data for different subgroups: English Language Learners (ELL) Hispanic White Socio-economically Disadvantaged Special Education

9 Data CAASPP scores for 14-15 school year have not yet been released Currently, district is using the i-Ready program to measure student performance in Reading and Math

10 i-Ready i-Ready Diagnostic Assessments are administered to students 3 times a year: beginning (August), middle (January), and end (May) of the school year Program assigns targeted lessons for students based on their performance on the diagnostic assessment. i-Ready can be used at home at any time during the year, including summer. Request user name and password from your child’s teacher
