RIBOSOMES OF THE CELL By Anil Chakka Reece Umbarger Jake Zevitz
2
WHAT ARE RIBOSOMES? - Ribosomes are the site of protein synthesis -Rough ER -Nucleus (nucleolus) -Golgi apparatus -Floating in cytoplasm
3
FUNCTIONS OF RIBOSOMES -RNA -Amino acid -Proteins
4
WHY DO WE NEED PROTEINS? -Muscle -Enzymes -Antibodies -Non-steroid hormones -Structure
5
WHY THE CELL NEEDS RIBOSOMES -No translation of RNA -Without translation, cells would die -In turn organism dies
6
THE MOST USELESS ORGANELLE IN THE CELL -The Golgi is useless -Rough ER modifies and ships proteins in vesicles -Golgi only ships proteins
7
GET BIG!!! Ribosomes make proteins. Proteins get you big. Get big with the ribosome!
