4. Appositive Phrases The appositive phrase is the appositive PLUS all the words modifying it. Now find the whole appositive phrase (all the other words modifying sister ) Esther, my sister with the dark hair, sang a song.

5. Notice that the entire appositive phrase is set off by commas. Esther, my sister with dark hair, sang a song. To diagram these, put them in parentheses after the noun that they are renaming.
