Law Enforcement

Law Enforcement is the stabilizing factor in our society as it protects our lives and property. Law Enforcement comes in many different forms and fashions from police officer to forensic analyst. With its base obviously in the military, rigid guidelines are expected, the process of becoming part of Law Enforcement is one of difficult training and testing. Law enforcement at times can be a high stress environment and life threatening in some situations. Law Enforcement officers often strive to uphold the law at all times and help maintain a peaceful society.

Education and Career Path For state and other local law enforcement careers, graduation from high school is enough for application and success. However, with further positions in Law Enforcement such as the CIA and FBI, college degrees are typical. For more specific careers in Law Enforcement such as analyst positions and forensic positions, certain majors in college or graduate school are necessary. People in Law Enforcement generally progress through different departments when they alter career paths.

Skills *Communication *Teamwork *Logical *Analytical *Observation *Calm *Detailed *Healthy Most Law Enforcement personnel are expected to have all of these characteristics in unison, but also have tremendous ability to remain above the influence of the power of the position. Many of us have dealt with a person in Law Enforcement and know some of the traits that distinguish a good agent from a poor one.

Law Enforcement Interest My overall interest in the many careers of Law Enforcement has overall declined. After thinking more about the risk of the jobs for the relatively low reward, I do not see myself pursuing any type of these careers. The salaries were much less than I expected as well. The skills needed did not necessarily deter me from the careers, but the personality traits typically expressed by Law Enforcement officers are not those of my own. I enjoy human interaction in day to day life in a more peaceful manner than many of the interactions of Law Enforcement.
