1 11.11.15 Augustan Newsletter Math by Kaylee Loya For the next six weeks we will be learning about ratios, proportions, rates, and unit rates. We will also be learning about which deals are better and which are not. (HINT: Proportions are two equivalent ratios.) Plus we’ll also do a little “ Moore “ FDP in unit 5. Science by Mrs. Ledford We have been working hard and keeping busy in Science! Our next unit of study will be over energy transformations. We will cover topics such as hydro energy, solar energy, and wind energy. Lots going on, so make sure to always ask your child about what they are learning! Christmas by Brea Rodriguez I am definitely ready for Christmas. Here are a few fun things to do around that time. Looking at Christmas lights around Amarillo is definitely one of my favorite parts of Christmas. In the Wolflin area, there are horse drawn carriages you can take rides in. Amarillo Little Theater has the play "A Christmas Story”. The Botanical Gardens has great decorations during Christmas time also. Have a safe and fun Merry Christmas. BACON FOR BREAKFAST By Isaac Mcgill Did you have bacon this morning? Hot dog for lunch? If so, you might want to read this. The World Health Organization(W.H.O) released that processed meats will increase the risk of colorectal cancer by 18%. As a bacon lover, it hurts me to write this, but no more bacon for breakfast or BLT Tuesdays. So, the next time you get a hot dog, you might ask yourself, “Is it really worth it”. CHOIR-by Skylar McCleskey Attention choir students. In choir we will be learning "A Solfe'ge Christmas, Arre Borriquito, Cold of Winter, and Melle kellamikimaka which will be so much fun, and the Harmony group will be having practice every Tuesday after school till 4:00. So far the Harmony group has learned "Hot Chocolate", and "Mr.Santa", so far Harmony, and choir has had a lot of fun this year. Language Arts by Lily Bynum In ELA class we are finishing our 3rd set of vocabulary. Our test is tomorrow, so hopefully you are ready! Hope you studied!! Also we just finished The Cay last week. What did you think of it? And are you ready to read our next book because we started it on Monday! Flipped is a realistic fiction novel by Wendelin Van Draanan. We are also working on the chrome books creating a suitcase full of vacation letters, maps, graphs, and research! Thanksgiving by Joshua Whitley Thanksgiving break will be on November 25th through the 27th in the 3rd week of November. Traditional dinner for Thanksgiving is turkey, stuffing, and pumpkin pie. Everyone have a happy Thanksgiving! Social Studies By:Isaac Mcgill Augustans, we are traveling south this November in Social Studies. Mrs.Ledford will guide us to Central America, South America, and the Caribbean as we learn about their economy, land features, cultural make-up, and political boundaries. Fun facts: Argentina was where the tango was created. Columbia is the number one source for emeralds in the world. Patagonia isn't just a cool jacket but a dry plateau in Argentina. Amazon is not just a popular website but also the largest river in the northern hemisphere!

2 BULLYING-by Skylar McCleskey What does a bully mean to me? To me a bully is someone who is constantly mean to maybe not just to one person, but to everyone and won't stop not even when asked. Someone who says "just because you are sitting here it does not mean that you are cool" is bullying and well everyone is cool no matter who they are, and no one should tell them that they are not. This is constantly happening, but if we all work together we can stop it, and make this generation kind to others so this generation can teach the next to not bully, so this world can become a better place. All people are created equal no matter who they are. SPIRIT WEEK-by Skylar McCleskey This spirit week was so much fun. Monday was wear black which I saw a lot of people wearing black, Tuesday was wear neon. Wednesday was dress like an old person and there was a lot of old people. Thursday was nerd day, and there were a lot of nerds in my class, and last but not least Friday was Gladiator day, and I saw happy Gladiators. RANDALL FOOTBALL by Lily Bynum Randall Raiders: The Raiders next game is on the thirteenth at 7:30 p.m so mark your calendars and save the date, they will be going against Plainview. Hope they win! Game11/13 7:30p Plainview (Plainview, TX) Mrs.Ledford's GAP By:Brea Rodriguez Mrs. Ledford's gap class is a lot of fun. We work on the crome books a lot and have a new project. We learned about the Titanic a little bit and now we have our own boat to learn about. Every group has to do a project about a type of boat. We also have FFA(future farmers of America)come and do science experiments with us. I hope you all have fun gap classes. November Weather by Joshua Whitley The average high temperatures for this month is about 60 degrees Fahrenheit and the low temperature is about 35 degrees Fahrenheit, so this month will be a good time to bring the jackets out.
