Adverbs can modify adjectives: They were too eager to turn in the work. We were slightly nervous about the outcome. The fans were nearly ready to storm the field.

Adverbs can modify other adverbs: We worked very carefully. She visits almost daily with her grandmother. Don’t follow too closely.
