4. II. Reconstruction F.Congress refuses to admit Southern officials & sends the 14 th to the states for ratification 1.They refuse to do so G.Military Reconstruction Act of 1867 1.Splits South into 5 military districts 2.These new gov’ts ratify the 14 th amendment

8. III. Reconstruction Amendments C.15 th Amendment 1.All male citizens have the right to vote 2.AAs want to vote 3.Republicans wants the AAs to vote for them 4.Federal troops attempt to protect AAs that vote

African Americans A.Most stayed on the same plantation 1.No money and no where to go B.Some moved looking for family members 1.Exodusters – AAs who moved to Kansas C.Started own churches and communities D.Began going to schools 1.Freedmen’s Bureau schools 2.Black colleges started by Northerners

10. IV. African Americans E.B/c of the new amendments, blacks elected many others to state legislatures and Congress F.Got land from the Freedmen’s Bureau 1.It was taken away when whites were pardoned 2.Never got their “40 acres and a mule”
