1 Year 6 SATs Assessment Meeting Tuesday 23 rd February 2016

2 Aims for this meeting To look at age expectations for Year 6 children. To explain the structure of the tests. To share some examples of expectations in KS2 SATs. To offer suggestions as to how to support your child this year.

3 Expectations at Yr 6 Levels have now been removed National standard will be a scaled score score of 100 Scaled score and whether the National Standard has been met or not

5 Reading Test 60 minutes to read the text and respond to the text by answering the questions Mixture of recall, comprehension and inference. Difficulty is varied throughout the text. Greater focus on fiction texts

11 Writing Tests – Teacher Assessed Children’s writing from the last few months will be assessed by their teachers Expectations have risen dramatically this year 3 levels-Working towards the expected standard, working at the expected standard and working at greater depth within the expected standard.

16 GAPS  1 paper which tests children’s knowledge of grammar and punctuation (45mins)  1 spelling test consisting of 20 words

24 How you can help… Read with your child Complete the tasks set as homework in learning logs. Spellings from the year 3/4 and 5/6 spelling lists. Work through revision materials www.grammar-monster.com

25 Maths Tests 2 reasoning papers (45mins) 1 written arithmetic paper

26 Reasoning papers Starts off with simpler problems and gets progressively harder Later questions involve problem solving with more than one step Children are allowed the use of rulers, mirrors and angle measurers Questions can be read to pupils

30 Written Arithmetic Test New test for 2016 Children will be tested on their ability to quickly answer a range of calculations 36 questions, 30 minutes Space on the paper to show their method

38 How to help your child Encourage them to work out problems when shopping, for example working out a total or how much change you should get. Work out the length of time of television programmes or how long it is until their favourite programme is on. Help them to learn all tables up to 12x12 including quick-fire questioning Support children with Learning Log activities and those in the revision guides. Practice written calculations with them.

39 Final points. Support will be given to all pupils. We will continue to tailor this to suit both pastoral and academic needs throughout the rest of the year. Revision guides and workbooks. If your child needs help with any homework, please encourage them to ask us. Feel free to write your questions in the Learning Log too.
