What are the news?

I love you without knowing how, or when, or from where. I love you straightforwardly, without complexities or pride; so I love you because I know no other way than this: where I does not exist, nor you, so close that your hand on my chest is my hand, so close that your eyes close as I fall asleep. 4 Think of a book you read recently and answer the questions. 1. What is the title of the book? 2.Who is the author? Do you know anything about him? 3.Who is/are the main character(s)? 4.What is the book about? Where does the story take place? When? 5.Is there any remarkable quote? 6.Did you learn any new vocabulary with it? 7.Would you recommend this book? Why?

You read because you want it, because you have a purpose within it. Reading for comprehension is the primary purpose for reading. A person may read in order to gain information or verify existing knowledge, or in order to critique a writer's ideas or writing style. A person may also read for enjoyment, or to enhance knowledge of the language being read. The purpose(s) for reading guide the reader's selection of texts.

There are many things that together give you the ability to read. Brain mechanism, mental state, cognition process... But, one can simply say that s/he is able to read because s/he was taught so. Because there was a moment in his/her life in which it was finally possible to recognize letters, words, sentences, texts, contexts, intertexts, hypertexts…

How do we develop abilities in general? Practice. Practice makes perfect. By reading extensively you acquire fluency in reading.

Research says that L2 contexts bring a range of different needs and challenges for reading. Such as the importance of discourse structure, vocabulary, language awareness, genre form, L2 proficiency… Language instructors are often frustrated by the fact that students do not automatically transfer the strategies they use when reading in their native language to reading in a language they are learning.

Reading is an interactive process that goes on between the reader and the text, resulting in comprehension. The text presents letters, words, sentences, and paragraphs that encode meaning. The reader uses knowledge, skills, and strategies to determine what that meaning is.

There are many possible ways, but all of them go through the same principle, which is to develop reader’s knowledge, skills, and strategies.

Linguistic competence: the ability to recognize the elements of the writing system; knowledge of vocabulary; knowledge of how words are structured into sentences Discourse competence: knowledge of discourse markers and how they connect parts of the text to one another Sociolinguistic competence: knowledge about different types of texts and their usual structure and content Strategic competence: the ability to use top-down strategies, as well as knowledge of the language (a bottom-up strategy)

Previewing, predicting, skimming and scanning, guessing from context, paraphrasing.
