4 SYMBOLISM Valerie mentions that Ruth grew Scarlett Carsons. It is the same type of rose that V used to lay upon his victims after he executed them. 5 CAMERA SHOTS – MIRROR SHOTS Towards the end of this scene we get a mirror image of Valerie and Evey while they are both held in a concrete cell. We see this shot as Valerie writes the letter about her life and what has happened to her. We then get a quick transition to Evey reading the exact same letter, holding the letter the same way Valerie was, and also having the same body position. 6 COLOUR When we get a flashback of Valerie’s past the colours change from a dark gloomy colour to a more subtle warm faded colour which we know as a Sepia colour effect The dark and gloomy colour represents the kind of atmosphere Evey is in and what Valerie has experienced when she was put in a detention cell. 7 CAMERA SHOTS - PANNING In the year 2002, Valerie confessed about her sexuality to her parents, it starts off as a panning shot of the whole room with the cameras behind Valerie and Christina, it shows at the start of her mother being sad and father being completely mad, but ends the panning with Valerie and Christina holding hands.
