What is the Campus Commuter Challenge? A sustainable transportation event organized by Resource Conservation Manitoba Involves 8 university and college campuses within Manitoba Held annually during the last week of September
What is the Campus Commuter Challenge? Campuses compete for two challenges: highest overall number of students registered and highest per capita registered Students participate through using a form of sustainable transportation for their commute and register their participation online
What is the Campus Commuter Challenge? All participants are entered to win individual prizes including free transit for the school year and gift certificates to local bike shops
How does it work? Volunteer campus coordinators act as steering committee for overall event and organizers for their respective campuses Paid coordinator provides support to campus coordinators (obtaining prize donations, providing promotional materials, website support, etc) Operates on a small budget receiving significant levels of volunteer support, prize donations and media coverage
Benefits of the Program Provides forum for other transportation-related workshops and events (speakers, films, bike-repair workshops, etc) Engages students in advocacy and organizing
Benefits of the Program Rewards individual students for using sustainable transportation Raises the profile of sustainable transportation issues and TDM at post- secondary institutions
