Solving Equations in Physics

What??? This is physics not math Relax. Don’t freak out, its as easy as 1, 2, 3

Do you remember PEMDAS? What is it? P E M D A S arenthases xponents ultiplication ivition ddition ubtraction However, the key to solving equations is to do these steps in reverse!

So, what’s first? You need to break up the equation into its three steps.

STEP 1 The first step will always be either adding or subtracting.

STEP 2 The second step will always be either multiplying or dividing.

STEP 3 The Third Step will always be either squaring or square rooting 2

One more small detail When solving a math problem, the thing you are looking for, needs to be alone = 5 =

Let’s try a problem. 7x + 5 = 54 This problem has addition, so we need to subtract first. - 5 Whatever we do on one side, we have to do on the other. 7x 49=

Now, Step 2. 7x = 49 This problem has multiplication, so we need to divide now. Whatever we do on one side, we have to do on the other. 77 x = 7
