Draft Agenda 1.Running your program like a “non-profit” inside Penn State 2.Is it a gift? at a glance

What’s on your mind? What would you like to learn from this session today? I.E. - Fundraising tools, processes, rules of the road, expectations, best practices, how to get started, how to make an ask, how to finesse a relationship…….etc.

1. Extension - an embedded Non-profit 4-H, Master Gardeners, RULE, Floriculture Trials, Shale Gas Education, Strong Women (and many more). Significant advantage verses other non-profits Leveraging resources – Proposal writing – Major gift solicitations – Donor research – Donor assessment – Corporate and Foundation guidance – Grant submission, processing, tracking

Staff and Volunteer Roles Identification of prospective donors/sponsors Introductions to prospective donors Building relationships with donors Thanking and acknowledging donors/sponsors in ways that THEY wish to be thanked and acknowledged Great programming

Leveraging University Resources Get to know the Extension Development Office – Eric McGinnis! – Provide guidance, insight, and access to direct support of fundraising efforts – volunteer or staff- led. – The better I understand your goals and how they fit in with Extension priorities, the more resources and support I can direct to you.

at a Glance Marketing/Awareness: We have plans to develop a “Legacy in PA” program in partnership with Penn State Gift Planning and the MCOR. We are developing a statewide 4-H focused estate giving campaign A Gift Planning is being sent in July to many donors and prospective donors at Penn State that highlights the 4-H Centennial through the lens of the 4-H Robotics Program.
