4 Why do we raise money? Currently, MBA enrollment is 157,000 students 4% of those students are Hispanic (6,280) 16% of the U.S. population is Hispanic and growing…. (19.4% in 2020) 41% of Hispanic students say they need financial help to secure their MBA (10,297) NSHMBA and its UPP currently fund 3% Today, 10,084 Hispanic students are unfunded What’s our cause?

5 Make a gift today: One time gift or pledge Give a little bit every month with a recurring gift/pledge $10 x 12 months = $120, $25 x 12 month = $300 Give at work: Government Employee Fund Drives Federal, Military, and Postal Service employees can donate through the U.S. Government's Combined Federal Campaign. 7 Special Events Generate a lot of fun and excitement in addition to short- and long-term financial and organizational support Give donors, guests and volunteers a memorable experience and build interest and support Require manpower, resources, creativity, expert planning and super organizational skills to host a successful special event Fundraisers

10 Finding an Event that Fits Different types of events offer different opportunities—and different challenges Once you feel secure in your readiness, you can then choose the type of event you wish to host The Tool kit attachment offers some ideas for special events you might want to consider (Sample events included in Toolkit)

12 A. Finalize the Purpose – Why are you doing this? B. Determine the goals for the event? Who will be the target audience for the event? How many people do you hope to have at the event? How much will you charge for tickets and tables? What will be the different categories? What will the cost be for each category? What benefits will be offered ? What is the total event fundraising goal? Writing the Plan

13 C. The Budget Every successful event uses a budget to control costs. At this stage, you make spending decisions that will directly affect the net proceeds derived from the special event. To help you budget your event, use the following worksheets. (Sample budget included in toolkit) Writing the Plan

Event Timeline It is crucial to keeping an event on schedule Depending on the scope of the event the types of tasks and the length of the timeline can vary A 12-month timeline is attached and can be altered to fit the type of event (See toolkit) (Sample timeline included in toolkit) Writing the Plan

15 How many volunteers are needed to carry out the event? What type of volunteers are needed (do they have previous event experience)? Who will serve as event chair or co-chairs? Should you have an honorary chair? Who will serve on the steering committee and what will be their jobs? The more volunteers you recruit, the greater your chance for success. Volunteers not only help plan and prepare for a first-class event, but their involvement also spells financial support for the event. E. Volunteer Leadership

16 The purpose of underwriting is to maximize profit Sponsors are essential to underwrite the majority of expenses Underwriting is any contribution – money or in-kind (items or services) that lowers the amount to be paid Once you establish a budget, but before you commit to staging an event, evaluate potential sources of corporate and individual support The most likely sources come from members of the event committee, their businesses and personal contacts 3.
