15 th February 2008 Total Defence Day 2008 Everyone plays a part! Yes! Even you!

The FIVE areas of Total Defence Day

Military defence keeps Singapore ready to face threats from other countries. What Can I Do? (probably when you are older) Join the Ministry of Defence to do your part in protecting Singapore. Male pupils – treat your national service (when you’re 18) seriously and keep yourselves fit!

With civil defence, our safety and basic needs (e.g. food and water) are met. We can continue to lead normal lives. What can you do? Be prepared for emergencies Always stay calm and alert to dangers during crisis Learn life-saving skills

Economic defence helps to keep businesses going so that there are jobs for people to work in and earn a living. What Can I Do? Do your best in your studies. Continue learning even when you are an adult.

Social defence is about Singaporeans of all races and religions working and living together in harmony. What Can I Do? Understand and be respectful of the cultures and traditions of other ethnic groups Care for the less fortunate Celebrate festivals with friends and neighbours of other races

Psychological defence is about being loyal to our country and having confidence in its future. What Can I Do? Be proud of your country! Celebrate every success! Know our country’s history.

If anything happens to Singapore, would we be able to bounce back quickly?

Can you remember our 5 defences? Activity Time! Each person’s job and even you can contribute to total defence. But which one? Stick your card on the board and see if you’ve got a correct match!
