The Begun Center for Violence Prevention Research and Education The Dr. Semi J. and Ruth W. Begun Center is a research center at Case Western Reserve University. The Center’s staff of 25 social scientists in a wide range of disciplines: psychology, social work, sociology, anthropology, public administration, and criminal justice. Research areas include: exposure to violence, mental health, youth gangs, specialty courts, and criminal justice. These researchers have experience in county, state, and federally funded research and evaluation projects, including large-scale multi-state and multi-county designs.

CSAT Drug Court Grant Federal funds (TI025119) were awarded to the Cleveland Municipal Drug Court to expand the number of individuals that could be served and allowed surrounding municipalities to ‘send’ their defendant to Cleveland Drug Court for court services 54 individuals have been enrolled to date 150 individuals are to be served by September 2017

CSAT Drug Court Grant Has allowed for the expansion of the Drug Court docket for defendants presenting with substance use disorder diagnosis of opiate dependence (Severe or Moderate) and at risk of failing in less intensive or traditional models of supervision. The proposed intervention strategy includes a comprehensive screening and assessment process for substance use disorder, trauma, recidivism risk, readiness/motivation, HIV and Hepatitis status and Medicaid/ACA eligibility.

CSAT Drug Court Grant Project goal is to establish a coordinated, multi- system approach designed to combine the sanctioning power of the Greater Cleveland Drug Court with evidence-based treatment approaches. Outcome: 1) reduce incidence of SUD relapse; 2) increase successful treatment completions; 3) reduce number of technical violations 4) increase successful program completions; 5) reduce number of new arrests; 6) increase education and employment status program end.

CSAT Drug Court Data Results The following longitudinal data reports on the 18 individuals who received grant funded services since October 1, 2014, have completed their court experience (terminated or successfully completed) and have 3 waves of interviews. Interview Waves: – Baseline (T1), 6-month follow-up (T2), Discharge (T3 )
