2 North Carolina TASC What is TASC? While the justice system is concerned about public safety, the treatment community is concerned about changing behavior & reducing personal suffering associated with substance abuse & mental illness. Treatment Accountability for Safer Communities (TASC) is a program that connects the justice system & treatment system to improve mental health & reduce drug use & crime in all 100 North Carolina counties.

3 North Carolina TASC What TASC Does Screening & Assessment for Treatment & Recovery Support Needs, including alcohol & other drug use; type of justice system involvement; medical, family, social, education, employment & treatment histories Matching Clients with the Correct Type of Care, Support Services & Providers Care Management that coordinates Service Needs & Criminal Justice Requirements by planning, linking, advocating, monitoring, reporting & ongoing assessment of progress

4 North Carolina TASC TASC Eligibility Involved in the Criminal Justice System or released from the Dept of Correction after completing a prison treatment program Agrees to participate Evidence of a history or potential substance abuse &/or mental health problem, including drug- related charges
