DevInfo in Egypt DevInfo 5.0 Regional Training September 2006 Background on DevInfo ChildInfo was established in UNICEF Egypt Country Office in May 2002 ChildInfo database was converted into DevInfo 4.0 in 2004 DevInfo Egypt 2004: launched in Sept 2004 DevInfo Egypt 2005: launched in April 2005 DevInfo Egypt 2006: launch TBD

DevInfo in Egypt DevInfo 5.0 Regional Training September 2006 Institutional arrangements UNICEF is the agent of the UNCT in Egypt responsible of DevInfo UNCT’s long-term objective is to: –Build national capacity for maintenance & use of DevInfo as a monitoring tool –Support informed decision-making at various levels MOU was signed between CAPMAS, IDSC & UNICEF in May 2006 to transfer the ownership of DI database for a transition phase of one year

UNICEF is transferring technical knowledge & expertise to CAPMAS and IDSC with regard to data collection, data processing, data analysis & dissemination of information Work is executed according to a detailed work plan to produce the first DI database by Government institutions Responsibilities by types of activities are distributed between CAPMAS and IDSC UNICEF provides full technical support to ensure smooth transfer and quality control

DevInfo in Egypt DevInfo 5.0 Regional Training September 2006 Progress path UNICEF conducted DI 4.0 training workshop on the use and administration of database in May 2006 for DevInfo team Framework is designed to include national data organised by MDG goals, and thematic sectors covering several developmental aspects Incorporation of goals from the National Development Plan is envisaged to be incorporated Data collection from main data sources (MOE, MOH, MOP, MOSA etc..) is ongoing Data entry to start in parallel with data collection and verification to catch-up any gaps in the information received

DevInfo in Egypt DevInfo 5.0 Regional Training September 2006 Current status (content, use) Egypt 2007 database: 180 indicators of which 33 are MDG indicators 3 Geographical levels Data from 1960 to 2006 Primary data sources, National & Global reports Database to be used by government institutions, research institutions and international partners

DevInfo in Egypt DevInfo 5.0 Regional Training September 2006 Future plans At the fall of one-year period, an assessment will address progress, weaknesses, partners' contributions etc. The agreement will be renewed for long-term period based on the assessment and necessary modifications Further needed support to ensure regular update and quality of information will be specified

DevInfo in Egypt DevInfo 5.0 Regional Training September 2006 Key Issues: Challenges Reach an agreement on information sources that should be used Receiving information from the data sources in the scheduled time Quality control of received information & incorporating of metadata Availability of members of the assigned team to fulfill the work according to the scheduled time
