2. 2 Background on the Core Principles  Builds on the set of principles set by the development community in the domains of country ownership, donor harmonization and alignment  These principles (above) were endorsed in the Rome Declaration (February 2003)  Were further developed in the DAC Good Practice Paper : “Harmonizing Donor Practices for Effective Aid Delivery”

3. 3 Core Principles for Development Agencies Focus the dialogue on results at all phases : planning, implementation, completion and beyond Partner country priorities are the starting point to which donor support is aligned Keep the results reporting system simple Manage for results, not by results Use results information for management learning and decision making

4. 4 Action Plan on Managing for Results Endorse the Core Principles – include more agencies Focus National Strategies and Systems on Country Results Align Cooperation Programs with Country Results Harmonize Results Reporting Improve Statistical Systems Assess Development Agency Performance Disseminate Good Practice

5. 5 Key Progress Indicators in 2004 for Consideration Partner countries endorse the use of core principles by development agencies and consider applying these to their own development processes Improve results frameworks for national strategies Assess the institutional setting for managing for results in public sector management Explore theory and emerging trends in use of results reporting for resource allocation in development Undertake harmonized results reporting in 4 countries

6. 6 Key Progress Indicators in 2004 for Consideration Increase data for MDG 2005 monitoring report by fully costing integrated statistical plan Consult with partner countries on potential norms and standards for agency performance Organize regional seminars as follow-up to Marrekech Roundtable to highlight case studies and discuss principles and action plan Launch global website to serve as information warehouse on managing for development results
