The Art Critiquing Process A method of organizing the facts and thoughts about a particular work of art.

Art Critiquing Process Similar to the Scientific Method

The Art Critiquing Process Is broken down into four steps: –D–Description –A–Analysis –I–Interpretation –J–Judgment

Remember There is no right answer Not all people are going to agree with you.

First Step: Description Describe the picture Talk about: what you see about the subject medium Remember: You must be objective

Second Step: Analysis What the message of the artwork is –What ideas does this work represent? When analyzing use: –Elements Of Art –Principles of Design

Second Step: Analysis Elements Of Art Line Color Texture Shape Form Space Value

Second Step: Analysis Principles of Design –Rhythm and Movement –Balance –Proportion –Variety and Emphasis –Harmony and Unity

Third Step: Interpretation Your thoughts on: –what the artist is trying to say –what this work means to you

Fourth Step: Judgment Express your opinion. –Your thoughts about the work –Is it successful? –Do you like it? Why?
