3 Step 2: Analyze the Artwork List the how the Elements and Principals of Art relate to the artwork. How has the artist used: – Color – Texture – Line – Shape – Value – Proportion – Unity – Balance

4 Step 3: Interpret the Artwork What do you think the artist is try to communicate to the viewer? Based on step 1 and 2, make a guess as to what the artist is trying to communicate? What may be the reason for the artist creating this work of art? What does the artist want me to understand about the artwork?

5 Step 4: Judge the Artwork Is the artist successful in communicating this idea to the viewer? How well does the artist communicate in step 3? What could the artist have done differently to better communicate to the viewer? Why might others have a different opinion about the artwork?
