Weather is caused by the uneven heating of the Earth by the sun. This happens because the Earth is tilted and spins on its axis. This uneven heating gets the air and water in our atmosphere swirling around like a pot of boiling water, which causes wind and precipitation. ©2013 Educurious Partners. Climate describes that average weather in an area over a long period of time. Data must be gathered for an area for at least 30 years to be considered relevant climate data. The Köppen Climate Classification System is used to classify climates around the world. An image of this system is on the next slide.
