Strength through Industry & Technology NATIONAL SECURITY STEM WORKFORCE INITIATIVE OVERVIEW

Strength through Industry & Technology The Voice of the Industrial Base 3 OBJECTIVE Increase the population of (security) clearable professionals with science, technology, engineering and mathematics degrees attracted to private sector and public service national security-related careers through a comprehensive, coordinated set of activities that leverage NDIA’s core competencies, organizational strengths and membership diversity.

Strength through Industry & Technology The Voice of the Industrial Base 4 PURPOSE To ensure the United States can maintain its historical position as the global leader in developing national security-related technologies and capabilities.

Strength through Industry & Technology The Voice of the Industrial Base 5 SCOPE NDIA’s National Security STEM Workforce Initiative will draw upon the skills, energy and resources of its members, affiliates, divisions, chapters and professional staff to implement three central activity sets: a. Contribute to the development of national policies, regulations and legislation that recognize the necessity of a robust technology skill base in the interests of national security b. Promote government and defense industry cooperation on STEM workforce development initiatives c. Support and promote programs and activities designed to encourage young students (middle & high school) to develop interests and pursue careers in math, science and engineering.

Strength through Industry & Technology The Voice of the Industrial Base 6 INITIATIVE COMPONENTS “Engagement” Actions designed to obtain attention and gain commitment of a variety of stakeholders: National Security S&T Workforce Division  Studies / Research  Conferences/Seminars/Workshops  Congressional Caucus Engagement  Focus broad attention on issues / facilitate improvement Affiliates  Incorporate NSSWI support activities into existing operations portfolio Chapters  Incorporate NSSWI support activities into existing program of activities NDIA Board of Directors  Through the Strategic Planning Committee, provide overall guidance and direction for engagement targets and overall efforts

Strength through Industry & Technology The Voice of the Industrial Base 7 INITIATIVE COMPONENTS “Outreach and Advocacy” Actions designed to educate others about the STEM issue and generate participation to counter current trends. NDIA  Sponsorship of specific program(s) (TBD) designed to promote STEM education. Members, Chapters, Divisons, Affiliates, National DEFENSE Magazine  Enhance stakeholder (members, government, Congress, academia) awareness of issues / opportunities Members, Chapters, Divisions, Affiliates  Encourage advocacy & participation
