AGENDA CONVECTION LAB HYPOTHESIS: “IF we heat up water, then(convection will or will not occur)because (what you thinks causes convection to occur or not to occur). Testable Question: When a liquid is heated, does convection occur?

CONVECTION CURRENT LAB PROCEDURES TURN ON HOT PLATE (HOT PLATE SHOULD NOT BE HIGHER THAN 4) ALLOW BEAKER OF WATER TO HEAT FOR 3 MINUTES. SPRINKLE CONFETTI PAPER INTO THE BEAKER OF WATER. PUT TWO DROPS OF DYE INTO THE BEAKER OF WATER. OBSERVE THE MOVEMENT OF THE CONFETTI PAPER. DRAW THE BEAKER OF WATER AND USE ARROWS TO SHOW THE MOVEMENT OF PAPER.

BEFOREAFTER

C.E.R. CONCLUSION CLAIM A statement about the solution to a problem A response to a question An answer to a problem EVIDENCE Relevant data or facts that supports the claim Observations that support the claim REASONING Explains how the evidence is linked to the claim Justifies why the data, facts, or observations support the claim Includes appropriate content concepts or principles

C.E.R. CONCLUSION Be sure you answer these questions in your C.E.R. 1. Explain the process by which the water is heated. 2. Describe the motion of the water as made visible by the dye and confetti. 3. Why does convection occur? 4. Did convection cease? When? Why?
