Style; What is Op Art? Op art is defined as: late 1960’s - early 1970’s in Europe and the US. A form of abstract art that gives the illusion of movement. The purpose of Op art is to utilize illusion & trick “the eye”. Here is an ex:

Op Art The description of “Op art” is a style of oil paintings of abstract art in which geometric lines, forms, and space are organized in a way that provides optical illusions with the precise use of pattern and color, or in which conflicting patterns emerge & overlap.

Analyze The area of emphasis in this artwork is the square between the lines. It stands out because its the whitest part of the artwork and shows a clear shape. Elements of art and principles of design found in this artwork would be, Movement: Lines forming a fan movement +/- space: open spaces not used in artwork and square in the middle. Contrast: black/white

interpret I think the artist was trying to communicate confusion by giving multiple patterns for the eye to look at.

Evaluate I believe that this artwork is a success because it shows simplicity yet tricks the eye by portraying movement. I enjoy this artwork because It’s simplicity and vivid style. I chose Victor Vasarely because i like his work and Op Art is very amusing to me.

Artist Statement I created an artwork that uses the style of Op art, similar to the artist Victor Vasarely. My art work shows influence from the style by using geometric shapes and conflicting patterns that emerge & overlapping. The emotion I was trying to express in this artwork is: illusion. I showed this by overlapping the star multiple times and using the colors black and white as a color pattern for each star. The area of Dominance in my artwork is the middle because the line of the stars pulls your eye towards the center
