Safety and Manufacturing

Why is Safety Important?  How many people like their fingers?  If you had to go blind for the rest of your life how would you feel?

Safety Rules  In case of injury, report at once to the teacher  If equipment doesn’t work properly, shut off the machine and inform the teacher  Damage to shop equipment and tools must be reported to the teacher immediately  Lifting heavy objects can cause injury. If an object is too heavy, ask for help  The proper manner in which to move about in a shop is to walk  The recommended footwear for lab work is cloth tennis shoes  If you have any questions about any job or operation, you must ask the teacher

Safety Rules  Any dangerous conditions in the shop must be reported to the teacher immediately!  When you enter another shop, you must report to the teacher immediately!  Guards and other safety devices are for your protection; always keep them in place  Disturbing another student while he/she is working is dangerous  Caution another student if you see a violation of safety practices  When working with hand, power tools, or machinery, all loose clothing and jewelry must be removed

Safety Rules  Types of behavior not permitted in any shop are horseplay, running, or loafing  Before touching electrical switches, plugs, or receptacles, hands must be completely dry  The main power switch should be turned ON by the teacher  To avoid injury to your hands, you must remember that milling cutters are sharp  Revolving milling cutters are especially dangerous. When the cutter is turning, the operator must keep hands away from the cutter  Work must be accurately measured and checked by the teacher before using machinery  Rapidly rotating end mills, if used incorrectly, will break, shatter, overheat, and dull quickly
