Objects and Models Photographs and Drawings Graphs Charts Video The Speaker Powerpoint 123

Prepare visual aids well in advance Keep visual aids simple Make sure visual aids are large enough Use a limited amount of text e.g. 6x6 rule or 8x8 rule Use fonts and color effectively Use images and animation strategically

Display where listeners can see them Avoid passing visual aids around the room Display visual aids only while discussing them Explain them clearly and concisely Talk to your audience, not the visual aid Practice speech using visual aid Remember, this is a formal presentation: do not try to mimic lecture slides

Animation Too much? Necessary? Strategic! Background (style, color) Attractive, non-distracting. Strategic; fits topic, audience and occasion Font (type, color, size) Professional, appropriate, non-distracting, continuity Info included How much? 6x6 or 8x8 rule Spell/grammar check Bullets/alignment Implies a relationship Full sentences? Elaborate during speech

PowerPoint IS required Practice with visual aid PowerPoint due by 10 a.m. Day of your presentation Send to No submission = No PowerPoint used = Point off Bring back-up copy (only used if my copy doesn’t work)
