Strive for professionalism! When you mispel words that subtacts from looking like a professionel. Grammar = important

Placing pictures in the same place (or close to it) helps with consistency as well Use the same background for consistency Limit words on screen

No more than six lines of text Try to limit to six words per point Goal is you don’t want audience reading – Rather listening instead No complete sentences NOT ALL CAPS Use a slide title for identification

Simplicity at its finest Keep it simple! –L–Less is truly more If I read EVERY SINGLE THING off of the PowerPoint, and only said what was on the PowerPoint, you would not care about my lesson. Save the crazy animations for another time. Also very distracting.

Strive for clarity NO ONE CAN READ THIS! Make sure your fonts are clear, and readable. Titles of your slides should be no smaller than 40pt font Text should be between 26-32pt If audience can’t see it or read it, then you will have a distracted audience

The color! This can be an example of what NOT to do with using certain images as a background. Your background needs to support the font color Remember, dark backgrounds need light color, and vice versa Be sure to test your PowerPoint to make sure everything is smooth

Charts/graphs You can use charts or graphs, but don’t have to You can make your own Be sure to cite where you got the graph if it isn’t yours (PLAGERISM!) Be careful that it: – Fits your presentation – Doesn’t distract

Prepare for the worst! Test it out on a campus computer before you come to class – Different fonts and pictures may not work the same Have it at multiple locations (e-mail it to yourself, cloud storage, USB flash drive, etc.) If you can’t get your presentation to work that day, you still need to give your speech!

Audience connection Different because you are managing your visual Focus on the audience! Not the visual! Printing PowerPoint notes before can help keep your pace Keep conversational

Creativity Go for it! But find balance Are you shaking it up? Or merely distracting?
