3/4/20162 Goals of the Library Media Center  To prepare YOU for life-long learning  To instill a love of reading  To teach the ability to find, use, and evaluate information effectively

3/4/20163 Flexible Scheduling  Students may come to the library during scheduled classes* or flexible scheduled times to do one of the following:  1. Check out or return materials  2. Read for pleasure  3. Research topics for reports using a variety of resources * Please refer to LMS website library media calendar

3/4/20164 Circulation  Students may check out two books at a time for a two week period  Books may be renewed one time for an additional two weeks  Fines for overdue books are 5 cents a day up to $2.00 per book. A grace period of two days will be given for illness, etc. before a fine is imposed.

3/4/20165 Lost or Damaged Books  Students who lose or damage books will be charged the replacement cost of the book.  Students with book(s) not returned after four weeks will lose check out privileges until the book is returned or paid for. “The man who doesn’t read good books has no advantage over the man who can’t read them.” Mark Twain

Other Educational Materials  Playaways* - battery operated pre-loaded audio books for circulation pre-loaded audio books for circulation  Magazines – located in reading nook – cannot be circulated  DVDs and VCR tapes/players for teacher use  ELMOS and overhead projectors, etc. *Need playaway permission form on file* 3/4/20166

7 Computer Station  Students are encouraged to use the computer in the library to aid their research for classroom assignments.

3/4/20168 Procedures for Computer Station  Students must have an Internet Use Form on file to use the Internet  Students must sign in on the computer log before using the computers  Computers are used for school assignments only  DO NOT CHANGE SCREENSAVERS

3/4/20169 STUDENTS WHO ABUSE THE USE OF THE COMPUTER WILL LOSE COMPUTER PRIVILEGES AND WILL BE DISCIPLINED ACCORDING TO SCHOOL POLICY

3/4/ ALABAMA VIRTUAL LIBRARY  The Alabama Virtual Library is a group of on- line databases that have magazine, journal, and newspaper articles for research. 

3/4/ Media Center Guidelines  Students must have a teacher pass and sign in at the front of the library.  Students may not leave the media center without permission or signed pass.  Books are checked out at the front circulation desk and returned to the depository at the back of the circulation desk.

3/4/ The #1 Media Center Rule Follow all school rules Any student misbehaving or engaging in unauthorized use of the computers will be sent back to class or the office.
