Unit 13- Web Design P1-Explain the intended uses and features of two different websites. M1-Review how the features in two websites improve presentation, usability, accessibility, and performance. D1-Discuss the strengths and weaknesses of the websites.

Website 1: Carphone Warehouse

Review Name of website: Carphone Warehouse Purpose To advertise and sell mobile phones and equipment. To also offer contacts. Features Navigation buttons will change colour when hovered over and will also drop down a sub menu of sister pages. E-commerce facilities Social media links Lots of high end graphics/ videos to represent products Search bar element Consistent colour scheme used throughout Action buttons Internal and external links Effectiveness of its features e.g. allowing users to customise the website format so that people with visual difficulties can enlarge the text. Features look really good and are effectively interactive however the text size is extremely small and there is no setting to allow this to be changed (size/ colour) therefore people with visual difficulties would not be able to make good use of the site. Strengths Navigation buttons will change colour when hovered over and will also drop down a sub menu of sister pages so the top of the page is not too busy. Search bar to make searching easy and very convenient for the user. Weaknesses No customisation available for the website therefore does not target all of it customers and therefore not fulfilling its purpose. Lots of scrolling required to get from top to bottom when they could have inserted anchors to make the usability much easier and quicker.

Website two: Netflix

Review Name of website: Carphone Warehouse Purpose To deliver a television network with members in over 50 countries enjoying more than 100 million hours of TV shows and movies per day, including original series, documentaries and feature films at a cost. Features Security signup E-commerce facilities Lots of high end graphics/ videos to represent and play movies/ programmes. Search bar element Consistent colour scheme used throughout Action buttons Stop, play and pause features Effectiveness of its features e.g. allowing users to customise the website format so that people with visual difficulties can enlarge the text. Again with this website, features look really good and are effectively interactive however the text size is extremely small on some parts of the page and there is no setting to allow this to be changed (size/ colour) therefore people with visual difficulties would not be able to make good use of the site either. Strengths Pages are not to busy and only have a few action buttons therefore its very easy to navigate around the sight. Instructions are given and payment plans all explained so its very clear to all users. Tall heading on login page, giving the site a real professional and modern feel. Weaknesses No customisation available for the website therefore does not target all of it customers and therefore not fulfilling its purpose. On some pages there is lots of white space which slows down the download speed.
