Human pH Scale (In-class activity)

Day 1: Control Set-up Today, we will be testing three known substances to create a color scale to compare unknowns tomorrow in our experimental group.

Day 2: Experimental Group Today, you will test substances of unknown pH. Using your knowledge from the testing of knowns yesterday, you will determine the pH of the unknown substances.

Read the ENTIRE strip and match it to the closest number. (check BOTH SIDES OF THE BOX.) Be sure to hold the strip with the colors down, and do not touch the color boxes with your fingers! pH paper strips

Acids/Bases Lab Day #2 Make sure safety goggles are on the whole time! The test tube list is on the whiteboard. Do NOT mix up the test tubes. Make sure you do predictions BEFORE testing!!! One squirt of each household product is all you need. When it’s time to check pH, use the beaker on the front demo desk, not your test tube! Test tubes must be thoroughly rinsed and left to dry after experimenting. Before the end of the period TODAY, the lab needs to be turned into the basket on the front demo desk with your name on it!
