How to Work With SURN Principal Academy Data For data downloaded from onlineobservationtools.com

To download data from onlineobservationtools.com: Scroll to the bottom of the onlineobservationtools.com page, and select ‘Student Indicators of Engagement Form’ from the dropdown list, click ‘Export’ and open and/or save the file

The following slides will walk you through data ‘cleanup’ and graph production using your downloaded data file(s). Some tasks are spread out across more than one slide to provide step-by-step directions.

Step One: Delete Unnecessary Columns: Delete columns highlighted in red (Note: your columns may contain actual data where ##### are used to obscure identities)

Step Four: Frequency by Subject Click on the + sign, click ‘Data Labels’ and click ‘Callout’ This will add labels to your graph Click on the chart, and copy and paste to add to another document (Word, PowerPoint, etc.)

Step Six: Frequency by Observation In the first empty row below the data entered, select the box for the first observation item, and insert the following formula in the formula bar: =SUM(E2:E50) Note: the column letter and second number may be different depending on how much data you have; use the row number directly above the box you are typing in.

Step Six: Frequency by Observation Select the box you entered the formula into (there should be a number there now), and click and hold the box, dragging it across all of the rows you have observation data for; unclick when all cells are boxed in

Step Six: Frequency by Observation With these cells still highlighted, select the ‘Insert’ tab, then click on ‘Recommended Charts’
