Directorial Background This French director is known for his “post-apocolyptic” type films. Delicatessen and City of Lost Children are prime examples and perfect examples of the “hybrid” film. Jeunet’s use of atmosphere is probably his greatest and most unique quality as a director. Just as Tim Burton makes him mark on every film with gothic imagery and foreboding fog or lighting. Jeunet accomplishes intense and vivid films. Water is a very important element to his movies and it seems to always exist in a most exaggerated form. It is usually a brighter blue or green color or a combination. This is especially evident in City of Lost Children and Alien Resurrection’s dreamlike underwater chase sequence along with his latest film, 2001’s hit Amelie.

Interesting Facts -The film was offered to Danny Boyle and David Croneberg before Jean Pierre Jeunet decided to take it. -Sigourney Weaver initially refused the role of Ripley unless “something new and challenging was added to the role.” $11 million changed her mind -Joss Whedon, the creator of the hit TV show Buffy the Vampire Slayer, wrote the screenplay for Alien Resurrection. -The cinematogropher (Darius Kunondji) also filmed Seven, Evita and Jeunets other films -The Auriga’s central network is called Father…Ridley Scott’s original Alien film had a ship whose central network was known as Mother
