Hampton Middle School 6 TH GRADE PARENT NIGHT

AGENDA  Infinite Campus  Standards- Based Grading/ Year Long Grading  Discipline  Citation Card  ISS/OSS  Additional Information

Infinite Campus  Infinite Campus Infinite Campus  Access to gradebook- - is the best way for instant access to your learner’s grades - if you don’t have parent access go to our school webpage or contact the counseling office  Parent portal to receive additional Information - messages from the school and the facilitators are sent to you from Infinite Campus

Grading  Year long grading - year long grading means your child will only get one report card during the year. At HMS, we provide progress reports every 4.5 weeks. Please make sure your learner turns in assignments and projects in a timely manner.  Standards- Based Grading - Standards-based grading is mastery grading. We use assessments to determine mastery at HMS. This is weighted at 85% of the total grade. You will be able to determine the standard using the assignment or category heading. If you would like to know the standards for each academic area, please go to Georgiastandards.org.Georgiastandards.org

Discipline  Citation Card - this card is your learner’s hallway pass as well as notification of infractions in the classroom. The citations do not go into their discipline record. This is to let you and the learner know that a specific behavior needs to be changed. There are several steps in the discipline plan that take place prior to an office referral.  Discipline Data - our sixth grade learners have more office referrals than the other grade levels combined during the month of September. Most of these are a result of placing hands on one another. Often a learner thinks he or she is playing, but the other person is not playing. The result can end in injury or conflict. It is important to stress to your learner that hands should be kept to one’s self at all times. HMS is also putting a variety of strategies in place to assist our sixth graders to transition to the new expectations.

Discipline  ISS/OSS -both of these result in missed instructional time - ISS is a consequence of an office referral. The learner is kept in school but in an isolated area from the rest of the population. There is an adult in the ISS room to monitor and assist as well as a restroom. Learners are taken to get water during the day. Facilitators bring assignments for learners to complete during the time in ISS. Misbehavior in ISS can result in OSS. - OSS is another consequence of an office referral. This consequence means the learner goes home for specified amount of time. The learner may get his/her work from the facilitator, but the parent or learner must request the work.

Additional Information  Teacher Webpage Teacher Webpage - your learner’s facilitator’s webpage is a great resource for information about assignments, materials, etc. The link will take you to the directory of facilitators  Attendance - Please do not check your learner out of class unless absolutely necessary. HMS has had a lot of afternoon checkouts meaning that the learner is missing an equivalent of two classes. Try to schedule appointments before, after school, or during breaks.

Contact Information  Dr. Carthon is your administrator for sixth grade. Please contact her via  Personalized Learning questions can be directed to Mrs. Shirley Hanner via  School phone:
