NORMAL VIEW Before you begin working in Microsoft PowerPoint 2013, you should be familiar with the primary user interface. When you first start PowerPoint, you will see a Start screen. If you then press Esc, you see a screen similar to the one shown in Figure 1-1, which is Normal view, where you will do most of your work. However, if your copy of PowerPoint has been custom-ized, what you see may be slightly different from what is shown. You can use this figure as a reference throughout this lesson and the rest of this book.

Look at the Ribbon, which appears below. Note that each tab contains several groups of related commands. By default, the Home tab is active. The Ribbon

In the lower-right corner of the Font group, click the dialog box launcher (the small box with a diagonal, down- ward-pointing arrow, right). Clicking this button opens the Font dialog box. Click Cancel to close the dialog box.

Changing Text in the Slides/Outline Pane The Outline Pane allows the user to concentrate on the content of the slide rather than the design aspect of the slide. Text can be edited in the Outline Tab or in the Slide Pane by simply moving your cursor to the item you wish to edit and typing your additions. To change slides in the Slide/Outline Pane, click on the new slide/section you wish to move to.
